On December 12, 2008, Conversations with Heroes at the Watering Hole will feature Gunnery Sergeant Nicholas A. Popaditch, USMC (ret.). On April 7, 2004, during the First Battle of Fallujah, Gunnery Sergeant Popaditch “was wounded in action. During a firefight with enemy insurgents, he was struck in the head by an enemy Rocket Propelled Grenade, fired from a rooftop into the commander’s hatch of his tank. He received numerous shrapnel wounds.” His injuries necessitated the removal of his right eye; and, “his remaining eye was legally blind. His right ear and nose sustained significant damage and an implant was placed in his skull.”

Nick Popaditch is running for Congress. Gunny Pop authored a book, "Once A Marine," that tells the story of an RPG hitting his tank in Fallujah. The story of his injuries is phenomenal. The Imperial Valley Press, because Nick is not a liberal, and is a candidate for the U.S. Congress, published a political cartoon (see above) mocking the injuries of the decorated Iraq War veteran. The cartoon was published in The Imperial Valley Press, a newspaper in Imperial County, the location of the 51st District where Popaditch is running for Congress. The cartoon shows a poster of candidate Nick Popaditch, who has a patch over his right eye. Two youths with skateboards seem perplexed by the poster. "What does that remind you of?" one says. The other answers: "A James Bond super villain? A bald pirate? Uncle Fester with an eye patch." Popaditch lost the sight in his right eye during the battle for Fallujah as a tank commander in Iraq in 2004. He received the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Among those criticizing the cartoon is Cheryl Perez, president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Military Order of the Purple Heart, unit 49, San Diego. Also known as Gunny Pop, Mr. Popaditch returns to Freedom Radio on a very special mission and we need your help. We’re looking for a few good Americans to help Gunny Pop complete this mission. Are you with us? Also join us this Sunday as the Freedom Radio Team presents a straightforward analysis of Operation Fast & Furious. If you think this ain’t big, think Watergate with AK47s. The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms’ mission is to interdict weapons to prevent the people who would commit crimes from being well armed. A fatally flawed plan, exercised under the Phoenix branch of the ATF, named “Fast & Furious” may well have been activated for other purposes, without regard for human life. This is why Congressional oversight of this operation has begun with well disciplined hearings being conducted with Darrell Issa at the helm. “Fast & Furious” was fatally flawed from its inception if indeed its goal as stated was the taking down of drug cartels by building a federal case, it WAS NOT by the use of the always necessary chain of custody procedures to roll up all the recipients of the weapons. As such, the stated goal was impossible. Everyone knows the Mexican cartels buy weapons for criminal purposes; allowing weapons to “walk” necessarily involved these specific F & F weapons in criminal acts of bloodshed and murder. Yet the program went on, even as its proponents knew that the NEXT time the weapons would be at a crime scene where there would be blood and dead bodies.
